Every responsible puppy owner should be looking to start puppy leash training while the puppy is still young. It makes taking him for walks so much easier when he is older.

Leash training is essential in ensuring your puppy grows into a happy confident dog, trying to walk your dog while constantly fighting with him as he pulls you on a leash will only make you and your dog frustrated and stressed, which could lead to an anxious dog who lacks confidence and could become potentially uncontrolled and aggressive toward you as you both fight for dominance of the leash.

Puppy leash training can be broken down into some simple steps

Step 1

Familiarize your puppy with the collar let him wear it for short periods of time until he becomes more and more used to it.

Step 2

Familiarize him to the leash never leave him alone attached to the leash but let him follow you with a treat in his hand for short periods at first reward him with a treat and praise him if he acts correctly.

Step 3

Stop if he pulls if he starts to pull stop move nearer to him or move him nearer to you then start again he will soon learn the behavior that brings him the treat and praise.

The key is to take your time, while he is still a puppy you are really only familiarizing him with the leash training.

When he is old enough to go out and has had his vaccinations then you can start to add a small choker chain but do not ever pull harshly on it or hurt the dog only light pulls and treats when he acts correctly.

Puppy leash training should also be undertaken after he has been familiarized with a few other basic puppy training techniques such as the sit command or the stay command, this all goes hand in hand toward his overall training which will ensure you end up with a well trained happy confident dog.

You must be firm and establish that you are the leader of the pack and the only important thing that matters is your commands more than the smell of some other animal that just passed away. For the first few days of training, keep in mind that every time you dog eat, he will be ready for the potty after 20-30 minutes. So make schedule that is convenient for you to roam around while your dog do his business.

3. It is all up to you to provide the positive reinforcement to your dog by creating fun and enjoyment during the training session. They are very sensitive and can respond to the spiteful nature of shouting and hard handed training acts. As they are distracted much easily, it depends on you to maintain the persistent while training.

4. Praise your beagle whenever he does the right thing. An encouraging words or the light riffle over the fur are some of the good way to let them know that they have pleased you. Easy Methods For Potty Training Puppies

New puppies bring an abundance of joy to their owners. They are cute bundles of fur who want nothing more than to be held and loved. But, potty training puppies can be frustrating without tenacity and patience. First you should invest in a crate appropriately sized for your pet and be sure he can walk steadily (seven to eight weeks old). Next, select the area you will consistently take your pet to accomplish his goal.

You should start by talking your pet to the selected spot and walk them around the area until they relieve themselves. You will notice that he is sniffing around, pacing back and forth, or spinning around in preparation. After returning inside, these signs will help you know when he needs to return outside for another walk.

When noticing your pet displaying his need to go potty, you should take him out immediately. Returning to his spot will remind him of what he is expected to do. If you wait too long, an accident indoors will occur and delay this whole process.

Your little guy wants nothing more than your attention and praise, and he will do most anything to get it. As soon as he completes he business, you must praise him immensely and give him some sort of food reward. If you limit this particular treat to successful outings, he will learn to expect it and the praise and reward will provide incentive to succeed.

To prevent indoor accidents, it is important that you crate your pet when returning home. His crate becomes his safe place, where he sleeps, and he will not want to soil this area. You should be prepared to walk your puppy every sixty minutes or so, and every few hours during the night. The frequency will decrease as he ages, but initially this frequency is required.

If your puppy has displayed his interest in going outside, but the walk is not productive, return indoors for a short time. You must then take him back out to his special spot until he potties. Remember to heap praise and provide the reward to reaffirm the positive reinforcement. After he eats or drinks, he should also be taken for walk within a short period.

Positive reinforcement is the most successful method of potty training puppies. Punishment does not work. It will confuse your little guy and have the reverse effect. More accidents will happen indoors, and he will not be successful using his spot outside. Praise and rewards are the way to go.

Easy Instructions For Potty Training Puppies

Potty training puppies is normally one of the first orders of business after bringing your new canine friend home. Because they want to please you, with a little time invested on your part, this can be a lasting bonding experience with your pet. Puppies should be able to walk steadily and you should obtain a crate for their confinement before beginning the process.

When you first take the puppy outdoors and they eliminate, pay attention to their behavior preceding the act. This will give you the signs to look for when indoors and better inform you when he needs to relieve himself. These signs normally include sniffing around, appearing in distress, or whining.

When you notice one of these signs, it is imperative that you immediate carry or walk your puppy outside. You should try to pick the same area or spot, at least initially. The puppy will become more quickly accustomed to relieving himself whenever in this area.

As soon as he completes his “business” reward him with a mountain of praise and some sort of treat. Some experts suggest you select one type of treat as the reward so that the puppy will associate that treat with a successful potty episode. He will want to succeed to receive your approval and that one special treat.

When returning indoors you can then crate your puppy. The crate becomes his den and a place where he feels safe. Most puppies will not soil their dens, so this certainly helps with the process. At least initially, you will need to walk him every hour or so to prevent accidents in the house. Unfortunately for new pet owner, this can also mean a trip or two outside during the night.

In addition to the hourly jaunts outdoors, you will need to take him out after eating or drinking. It is recommended that within twenty minutes or so you must take him for his walk. This is also true after he finishes playing, or if the initial walk did not produce the desired result.

Most experts agree that you should never punish your pet for an accident in the home when potty training puppies. Your walks will become less successful and more accidents will happen on your carpets. If he begins to relieve himself indoors, a simple hand clap or stern “no” will get his attention. Immediately take him outdoors to his normal spot and praise when he succeeds.

Having a pet dog can be full of excitement and fun, but puppy potty training is your first step. However, one of the major worry of pet owners is the issue of potty training their pets. Potty training is a vital task.

The first thing is to realize that potty training an indoor dog may take more time than you think. Once you bring that cute little guy home you’ ll realize that puppies relieve themselves a lot. In some cases as much as once an hour!

Another association puppies make during training is that shoes equal outside. Many stay-at-home dog owners we spoke with said the moment the shoes were on, puppies wobbled from out of nowhere. If your puppy does this, he has associated putting on shoes, with going outside.

Each time your dog finishes, really use lots of praise – Good puppy! It may be a good idea to offer a food reinforcement or two – Input for Output – Praise and Reward.

Puppy potty training is one of those times to indulge your buddy; give him a treat he/she really loves.

I have always found that lots of praise and that occasional treat brought many rewards. Not always right away, but rewards came. Puppies have a strong need to please, and when you pet them, praise them, treat them… they will reward you. Your carpet will thank you too.

As I always stress, consistency is key. It is vital that you maintain a consistent praise/reward method for your puppy. Best of Luck!

Owning a beagle is one of life’s great joys, but when it comes to house training them, things are a little bit different. Many people have trouble house training a beagle puppy mainly because of the beagle’s independent nature and tendency to run off after an unfamiliar scent. It may seem like your beagle may be impossible to house train right now, but you can do it if you are persistent and use the right method to train your puppy.

The best time to start house training your beagle is the same day you bring him home for the first time. If your puppy is under 16 weeks old, he may have a hard time controlling when and where he goes to the bathroom. Unless you are constantly watching him for signs that he has to go potty, like sniffing the floor for a good spot or walking around in circles, your puppy probably will go on your floor without you even realizing it.

Of course it is not always possible for you to watch your puppy every minute of every day so you may want to start using a crate early in the training cycle.

A crate is just a safe place for your puppy to sleep and should never be used as a way to punish your puppy. A crate is great for helping your beagle get used to holding it and going to the bathroom outside. Since a dog will try his best not to soil in his den, a crate can be a great advantage when house training.

If your beagle puppy does have an accident inside the best thing to do is just clean up the mess right away with a good pet sanitizer so your puppy can’t smell his scent and return to do it again. Scolding is only necessary if you actually catch your puppy in the act of going potty inside. Even then all you need is a firm “no!” and quickly take him outside if possible.

While house training a beagle puppy can be hard at times, remember to have plenty of patients and stick to your training routine.

If you do this you will have much more success when you are house training your beagle and it will be faster and easier for you. Remember that your beagle wants to please you but it is up to you to show him how to do that.

How To House Train A Puppy – 10 Easy Steps

house training a puppy

House training a puppy can take from a few weeks to a couple of months, so you have to be patient and consistent to get the best and fastest results. A puppy has a small bladder so he will have to go outside quite often. Always praise your puppy for doing the right thing.

1.
Start training your new puppy right away on the day you bring him home. Take him to a designated spot outside where he can relieve himself. Stay quiet and do not distract him. When he is finished give him lots of praise and let him know what a good dog he is. He will start to associate this spot with fun and lots of attention from you.
2.
Your puppy has a small bladder which he cannot control yet, so be patient and do not get angry with him. Never stick his nose into the mess he has made, as he will learn nothing from it, except to be scared of you. This will cause him to do his business under furniture and other hiding places when you are not around. Encourage your puppy to love you, not fear you.
3.
A puppy usually needs to relieve himself first thing in the morning, a few minutes after eating or drinking, when play time is over, when he wakes from a nap and of course the last thing at night. He will need to go during the night too. Develop a daily routine for feeding and toilet breaks and keep the same schedule everyday.

4.
After your puppy has relieved himself outside, spend some quality time walking around with him. This will help the two of you to bond. Play with him and call his name and get him used to your voice. Let him explore for a while. He will associate going outside with a place to do his business and also have fun and interact with you.
5.
Always praise and reward your puppy for going in the right place. Every aspect of dog training is based on positive reinforcement. Your puppy has to be taught how to do things and trained properly with patience, consistency, reward and love.
6.
When you get to the designated area for him to go, use a simple word or phrase to trigger him to do his business. You could say “toilet” or “potty now” or “do your job”. NEVER use his name.
7.
Watch for some of the signs that let you know your puppy wants to relieve himself: he suddenly stops what he was doing, starts walking in circles, sniffs the floor, begins whining, stands at the door, scratches the door or paws the floor. Some people train their puppies to touch a bell low down at the door. In time you will spot the signs.
8.
Crate training your puppy can be very useful for house training him too. Make his crate a nice place to be by making it very comfortable with toys and treats in it and of course water. Take him outside to relieve himself before putting him into his crate. Give him all his meals there too. Do not leave him in his crate for more than 3 or 4 hours.
9.
When your puppy makes a mess in the house, you must clean it as quickly as possible. Use odour and stain remover. You have to discourage him from wanting to go there again. Make sure there is no ammonia in the cleaning products you are using as ammonia is found in dog poop. Your puppy will smell it and make another mess in the same spot. Use pet-stain remover.
10.
Your puppy must always have fresh water available to him. Do not take away his water hoping it will reduce the amount of times he has to relieve himself. Water is needed for hydration and to ensure good health in your puppy.
